Bringing a Smile During This Isolating Time

10th June 2020

Because of the wonderful BMHT supporters, Barnsley Museums have been able to put together physical activity packs for some of our local vulnerable people, who may be without internet and are isolated during this difficult time.

The packs included a reminiscing puzzle book, Barnsey Top trumps card game, a DVD with amazing archive footage of bygone Barnsley, and a letter of support from the service.

The aim of the packs was to help pass some time and bring a smile, and they have proven to be a great success!

Your delightful package arrived!! What a great way of sharing Barnsley Museums while most folks were quarantined – lovely to bring so many interesting things right to them. I love the photos in the book, it is a special pleasure to see photographs focused on Barnsley, a place that has had a spot in my heart for a long time now, and very much renewed. ‘ – Dana.

Barnsley Museums are not just physical collections and buildings, but an extensive network of people from individual donors, to charities and community organisations. Because of this, we have a community network and are able to provide support for some of the most vulnerable.

Packs were sent to all local care homes, community centres, churches, social isolation, age-related and dementia charities, as well as over 100 individual museum donors and friends who are isolated alone. They were also distributed to refugees and asylum seekers through our Feels Like Home group, who are typically on the lowest income, without any internet, and already socially isolated.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you for the activity packs. I’ve had some great feedback for the groups. The DVD went down really well – some have watched it twice already! They have all really appreciated it and have asked me to pass on their thanks to you. THANK YOU!. ‘ – Jenny, Be-Friend Social Isolation Charity.

Thanks to your support, Barnsley Museums were able to let over 200 organisations and individuals know that we are thinking of them. Thank you.
