Experience Barnsley Festival celebrates the museum’s 5th birthday

6th June 2018

This month Experience Barnsley Museum turns 5. To celebrate, Barnsley Museums are hosting ‘Experience Barnsley Festival from 23 to 30 June.

The week-long celebration will start at Elsecar Heritage Centre on the evening of Saturday 23 June where the mighty ‘Man Engine’ – a 36ft (11m) tall miner powered by Volvo, will visit Barnsley as part of its 2018 Resurrection Tour.

A series of activities and events throughout the week will take place across the museum sites. The week will finish on a high with a Teddy Bears’ Picnic at the Cooper Gallery to celebrate the arrival of Bears! exhibition, and Barnsley History Day at Experience Barnsley Museum on Saturday 30 June where you can discover your local heritage with craft activities, a chance to enjoy newly-created films and discover more in special talks.

Admission to the museums is free of charge and we ask for donations to enable the museums to create access to the collections, retell Barnsley’s stories and provide wonderful things to do for people of all ages. Please join us for Experience Barnsley Festival and make a donation as part of your visit.
