Worsbrough Mill – Orchard Planting

8th April 2021

It’s been another busy week for the team on-site at Worsbrough Mill Museum and Country Park with the creation of a new orchard.

Jenny, Catherine and Amber got stuck in and planted 17 new trees. They planted varieties that are suited to the north of England plus 2 pear trees that were kindly donated by one of our other sites, Cannon Hall Museum, Park and Gardens. The work was overseen by fruit tree specialist Hilary from the Northern Fruit Group who helped the team throughout the day.

The orchard creation is part of the Worsbrough Wet Woodland project, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, monies secured by Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust, to improve and enhance this amazing site.

A big thank you to everyone involved and we hope that the trees will prove fruitful in the years to come.
