Discovering nature at Worsbrough Country Park

7th November 2018

We are pleased to announce that new learning resources are being developed to encourage families to go outdoors and connect to nature at Worsbrough Mill & Country Park in Barnsley.

The park has received funding to develop several free learning resources for families based on the flora and fauna throughout the seasons which make Worsbrough their home. The resources will be launched in February half term 2019.

Families will be able to begin their journey of discovery in the learning hut where an interactive digital ‘Museum in a Box’ will bring 3D printed animals and plants to life as they tell their stories.

A local artist will also be commissioned to create a colourful and fun printed learning resource with activities to help families explore the grounds and discover nature.

The project has received funding from the Co-op Local Community Fund, secured via Barnsley Museums & Heritage Trust (£3,582) and the Dearne Valley Landscape Partnership (£2,000).

Janette Robinson, Learning Manager at Barnsley Museums, said: “We are really pleased to have received funding to enhance the visitor experience at Worsbrough for children and adults alike and would like to thank our funding partners for their support in making this possible.

“Workshops with families over the summer and during October half term have helped inform the development of the resources and we can’t wait to share them with visitors as they enjoy the beautiful surroundings of the park.”

Worsbrough Mill & Country Park is part of the Barnsley Museums portfolio, owned and operated by Barnsley Council. Barnsley Museums & Heritage Trust is a fundraising charity set up to raise money to ensure the future of Worsbrough Mill & Country Park and Barnsley Museums’ four other free heritage attractions.

As well as receiving grants from funders, the museums rely on donations from visitors and businesses in the community to continue to provide engaging activities and exhibitions. To make an online donation visit our Support Us page.
