Explore Barnsley’s fascinating history through new online service

14th December 2016

People can now explore Barnsley Museums’ fascinating archives through a new easy to use online system.

Launching on Friday, 30 September, the new online tool will allow people to browse through a wide range of historical documents all relating to the borough.

To celebrate the new system, which can be found at www.explorebarnsleycollections.com people are invited to come along to the Archives and Discovery Centre on the day of the launch. Here the team will offer advice and assistance on using the new website.

More of Barnsley Museums’ records will continue to be added and will eventually be a complete catalogue accessible to all.

Cllr Roy Miller, Cabinet spokesperson for Place, said: “It has been a huge undertaking by the Museums team to get the new online system up and running. It will be extremely useful for anyone wanting to learn more about the towns fascinating history. Using the website they can look through hundreds of records, which are now all stored in one easily accessible location.”

Originals of all the documents stored on the online system can all be found at Archives and Discovery Centre, located in the town hall.
